Established on May 26, 1975, after the complete liberation of South Vietnam, Military Hospital 175 was formed by merging three hospitals (K116, K72, and K59) along with several other medical units. Initially known as Military Institute 175, it is now a strategic, top-tier hospital of the Vietnam People's Army in the South, a military medical research center, and a modern, multi-functional medical complex designed and planned to international standards.
In addition to its political mission, Military Hospital 175 is also tasked with protecting and caring for the health of high-ranking Party and State leaders; participating in medical examinations and treatment under health insurance and providing medical services to the people; serving as a multi-specialty satellite hospital for central hospitals in the southern region; and ensuring medical care for the Truong Sa archipelago and the southern sea region. In particular, the hospital was tasked with building, training, and educating Vietnam's first field hospital to participate in United Nations peacekeeping operations.
